The Explorer Current

Here is another update on what is currently going on in Explorer classrooms:

Science

Current Science topics include- organelles: nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplast, cell wall, cell membrane

Also, below is a top solar cooker project from the Advanced class.

Language Arts

We are still plugging along with Tangerine and Where the Red Fern Grows. Every Monday is devoted to a writing lesson or activity. Below is a picture of a Story Board from  Where the Red Fern Grows.

Math (if they have Ms. Day)

"Grumpy old man x wants to be left alone!   He doesn't like constants and coefficients bothering him on his property!  Therefore it is up to those in Miss Day's classroom to help Mr. X out by isolating the variable to solve the equation!  We did great with One and Two step equations now it is time to use our skills to solve story problems.  We are currently working on a story problem project.  After the project we will be solving multi-step equations and then finishing with a unit test.  On Monday October 14th we will have a student teacher joining us.  She will be taking us through operations with Rational numbers- which includes those friendly fractions!"

Social Studies

Students finished up their extremely creative songs, raps, and skits about Mesopotamia in their group project MESOPOTAMIA IDOL. The presentation skills were much improved from past years and students did a great job working together. There were 9 different groups that made it into the Championship Round and an Idol winner will be selected in the next week or so.

Currently, the students are finishing up our Monotheistic Religions unit. They will be writing their first Compare/Contrast paper (Writing Prompt) next week and we will end the unit with one last discussion on that important word, Tolerance.
